Annual sports games are generally the same every year, with some improvements sprinkled in here and there. MLB The Show is no different. I am a huge MLB fan and initially went the Playstation route over Xbox solely because of The Show, but I don’t think I have bought a copy of the game since 2016. However, the changes that are coming with this year’s version are enticing enough to make me want to spend that extra $60 to get my lifelike MLB experience. Personally, I play MLB The Show for mainly one reason – and that’s for its Road to the Show mode. My childhood dream was to become a major league baseball player, but at 5’6″ and 135 pounds as a senior in high school, I realized that dream would never come true. However, with Road to the Show, I can be a switch-hitting, 6’3″ beast who drops…

Video game titans Blizzard and Activision joined forces way back in 2007. That being said, it would appear that the merged gaming company is now making some changes Despite record high revenue for the year of 2018, the company will now be laying off over 700 employees. Back in 2007, Activision announced that the company would merge its assets with that of Vivendi Games. Among other things, Vivendi Games is a holding company to Blizzard Entertainment. Consequently, Activision Blizzard, Inc. was born. During the recent Activision Blizzard fourth quarter results conference call, CEO Bobby Kotick confirmed that the company would be performing lay offs following a desire to “reduce complexity and duplication.” Kotick’s full statement concerning the matter may be viewed below. “We’re staffing up production on our incubation efforts faster, and increasing our investment in live services, in our tools, in our Battle.net platform, and in new areas like…

There is nothing quite like a good RPG. The open world, expansive quest lines and in-depth levels of customization and choice are each endearing to the genre. That being said, there is a problem within the RPG world that is not being addressed. Well, now it is time to take a gander at that bloated elephant trouncing around the room. RPG games are about as poorly balanced as it gets. RPG is a pretty expansive genre. Everything from Assassin’s Creed to Tomb Raider could fit under the modern definition, making the term nearly meaningless. It has become more of a marketing term to excite casual fans into a frenzy. Simply placing the term “RPG” on a game box seemingly adds the belief that the game will now offer a deeper and more expansive experience. With that in mind, it’s somewhat understandable that marketers want to see it on every game…

Farming Simulator, just as it sounds, allows players to garner some virtual experience down in the fields. While a game all about mimicking manual labor may sound niche, don’t be fooled. Farming Simulator 19 launched near the end of 2018 and sold a massive 1 million copies within just 10 days. Needless to say, the not so niche game about planting crops and driving tractors has a cult following unlike almost any other. Well, Farming Simulator developers Giants Software have since announced an Esports league in Europe that will feature a massive 250.000€ grand prize. Giants Software CEO Christian Ammann recently offered a few words to Gamasutra on the matter. “Competitive farming is something people enjoy for years now, but it hasn’t been done in eSports so far,” Ammann said. “We have lots of eSports enthusiasts in our company who can’t wait to show the world that farming can indeed be…

With Aquaman being a solid success for DC Comics, it seems only natural that DC will try to capitalize on its momentum in 2019. The acclaimed Gotham series will air its final season this year, and Titans (the new darker take on the Teen Titans) seems to be making waves as well. This leaves many of us wondering – is 2019 finally going to be the year for DC? In past years, DC Comics has taken a backseat to rival Marvel. Marvel beat DC to the punch by creating its own cinematic universe and DC has been playing catch up ever since. The Batman Vs. Superman movie was not well received by critics, although fans seemed to like it. It seemed like Jesse Eisenberg didn’t know the character of Lex Luthor at all, and instead was playing the Riddler or the Joker. Next the Justice League movie was a pretty big swing and…
